I have a Foster&Smith fixture on my 10 hex, it's 36w, was $30, and now Thesatellite 12" dual's come out. Should I spend $90 on a new light, then sell this one? OR Buy a MH bell-pendant, and forget the PC's? OR, buy a retrofit MH, strip the PC ballast and lights out of the fixture i have, cram them in to a square hood, so the'll fit, and hang it over my aquarium, xtra change wanted here :P -Matt

Well, it really all depends on what kind of creatures you want to keep. If you are happy with what you have, and it is doing well under 3.6 watts/gallon, then keep it. However, if you want to get more light-requiring species (SPS, Anemones, etc), then I'd upgrade. If you were gonna upgrade, I'd go all the way to MH... just my preference having upgraded PCs several times... You will thank yourself in the end. If you are handy and the fixture is pretty well built with a sturdy reflector, then DIY. Otherwise, you can get a good pendant with ballast for around 200 bucks.
