Nothing wrong with that carbon losses a lot of it's efficiency within a few days. After that it's good for awhile tell the larger pours clog up. Link to comment

Red can still be used to get the color you want but IMO isn't very useful plus the aglae issue. You commonly see people taple over red to block them.
