freaky worm thing

I am pretty sure this is a Vermetid gastropod, its a snail that catches things with the "strings" with is a mucus trap. They are harmless. But you should atch it because I may be wrong.

hey tanks for the reply. atch it? what do you mean? hm, thats pretty crazy. the only anoying thing is that sometimes the strings get everywhere. i was just going to rip him off the rock but he is in a hard shell, kinda crazy, he sticks his little head out and it has these tiny antenna. whenever i get close he retreats into the shell, i'll try to get a pic with the antenna out. i suppose i could just chisel it off.

Maybe you should leave him. It sounds as though I have the same thing. Mine has doubled in size in about 6 months since I started my nano, but he seems to be harmless, and the "stringy" stuff that he releases actually catches debris from your water column and eats it-- sort of a filter feeder. Sounds good (albeit somewhat gross to watch) to me
