Tamberav
I would just take all the rock out, remove the sand bed, scrub everything, 100% w/c and replace the rock and leave it bare bottom. Maybe add sand at a future date if desired once the tank is running pest/algae free. Or if you want to play it safer, suck out some of the sand bed with each water change. Link to comment
Mariaface
Do you mix your salt with RO/DI water that tests at 0TDS? Link to comment
Fishgirl2393
I use distilled water. I feel like it is getting better. I just need tips on how to turn it into a tank that thrives. Everything is looking better, just not growing real well yet. Link to comment
Mariaface
The first six months to a year will be interesting, actually. It known as 'the uglies', and it's when everything finds a balance and gets under control. Try to test your distilled water with a handheld TDS meter, or bring some into your LFS to test. You don't want to be adding anything extra to the tank. If it seems like it's getting better, then you may just be slowly fixing the problem each time you remove the algae (technically, that is a form of nutrient export). Link to comment
