ReeferReefer
Well if it is a converted FW tank I am going to assume you have no sump. Thats fine you just need to do everything Hang on the Back (HOB). The most important thing you need for filtration is a high quality skimmer. I use a Reef Octopus BH-2000 but there are plenty to choose from. Buy the best skimmer you can afford. I would buy more live rock as this is your biological filtration. Get another 25-30 pounds of live rock as you generally want one pound per gallon. To keep corals you will need high powered lights. There are a ton of options here but expect to spend some money. This is generally the most expensive part of a reef tank. To save cost I would look for used fixtures. I use a Tek T5 6 bulb set up. If you go with T5 lights make sure they have individual reflectors. You can also go LED. The ReefBreeders Photon line is very popular and is reasonably priced. OceanRevive on Amazon is a good value too. You can always get cheap Chinese LEDs on Ebay or Amazon (MarsAqua, GalaxyHydro) for $80 each, you would need two. The last thing you need is regular water changes. I would start with 10-20% every two weeks. Vacuum up poop and other debries while you are doing this. And read lots. Read posts here and ask questions. We have dedicated sub forums for each topic above. Link to comment

I recommended the RW-8 on a budget. Link to comment

Pinner Reef
Hit up some research on this forum. I had a super simple 40 breeder (it did end in a disaster ) check my signature for details. That said, we have dozens of examples in how to successfully care for these systems. It's not as hard as you might have been led to believe and the experience along the way is a wonderful learning experience. Happy reefing Link to comment
