mitchellc
This is just some pictures of my tank. Since it is about a year and a half old, I will try to dig up some pictures from the beginning. But mainly just current photos here and there. Here is a side shot across the top. More on the way. OK, this tank is 36'' long, 26'' tall, and 13'' deep. It has a 4 inch sand bed, and 46 pounds of live rock. The tank sits on a black rod iron stand, that is designed to hold two tanks of the same size. I built a 20 gallon long refugium under it which is running chato, lit by a 9 watt led fixture, on reverse daylight. Next to the sump there is a 3 gallon trash can for auto top off, via a Hydor Ato with an aqualifter. Inside the refugium is a BRS carbon reactor, with 2/3 cup carbon, mixed with 1/3 cup GFO. Lighting over the display is achieved by one Reef Breeders Value fixture, with 90deg. optics. Both channels running at about 70%. Photo period is 10 hours, with a 15 min. dawn, and dusk, facilitated by digital timers. Flow is achieved by two Jeabo RW-8's, set to else mode. This gives me up to 88 turns per hour flow. I always try to stay around 60-70. Heater is I believe a Finnex 150 watt, with a built-in temp controller. Overflow is a CPR, with an aqua lifter, which I do not like at all. I plan to change to a life reef overflow very soon!! Don't own a skimmer. Never have. Not that I think they shouldn't be used, but to me less is more. A weekly water change won't break down on me. As for parameters Calcium 420ppm Alkalinity 8dKh Magnesium 1390ppm Nitrites 0 Nitrates 0 Phosphates .03 SG. 1.026 Ph 8.1 Maintenance consists of the following. Daily dosing of Alk evening, CA morning via ESV. Weekly 10% (5gal) water change, with Hw Marine mix reefer. Cleaning of the overflow sponge. Biweekly change of carbon/GFO. If the water is discolored. Otherwise the reactor is off. Monthly cleaning of power heads. I will update with a stock list soon. Link to comment
Elizabeth94
Seems the focus here is SPS, which I love. It would be cool to know your equipment and dosing regime. I have been looking into some dosing pumps for my new tank. I am way too inconsistent when I dose manually. Link to comment

mitchellc
I dose manually. ESV 2part daily. Ca. in the morning. Alk. just before bed. I'll post a rundown of my equipment next. Here is a pic of my rose millepora. All pictures are from my cell phone, so not the best. But colors seem true. Link to comment

mitchellc
To me, more equipment = more stuff that I have to check, clean, and have fail. I'll stick to my cough syrup measuring cup as my dosing apparatus. Link to comment
mitchellc
Pink cat's paw. Was just a tip left when I rescued it from my LFS. Slow grower but recovering nicely. My UC Voodoo acro. Bad pic. But the only one I have for now. Also a green montipora spongodes. Link to comment
vlangel
In the first pic from the side of the tank...what is the tall red thing in the foreground? It looks like a macro algae but it's one I have not seen. Link to comment

mitchellc
Here is a FTS about 2 months after setup. Don't have any sand in the refugium yet. Link to comment
mitchellc
This shot was taken about 6 months ago. The canopy is just four walls, mainly to keep the lights from spilling into the room. The stand is wrapped in black silk fabric, it is attached to the stand with Velcro. Link to comment
