catweh00
Is it absolutely necessary to use a protective glass shield on these lamps? I had one, but it collapsed and I was wondering if I need to go get another one. Thanks craig Link to comment
FateX9
the "protective glass shield" is to filter out uv ray thats being emitted from the bulb so the answer to your question is yes you do need one "UV rays can penetrate and change the structure of skin cells. UV exposure appears to be the most important environmental factor in the development of skin cancer and a primary factor in the development of lip cancer." -CDC so as you can see its bad for everyone im not sure the effects it would have on fish stuff but i know that uv sterilzers are harmful to anything that goes through it so if you have an excess amount of uv going into the tank i would think that its harmful more then helpful my 2 cents mike Link to comment
bamann345
I am using regular float glass from HD or Lowes for my 70 watt 10k USHIO bulb and it works just fine.. Link to comment
taketz
Just go to Micheals or JoAnn Fabrics and get some of their UV filtering glass cut. Its not too expensive, and it filters out UV rays. BTW.....Its in the frame department. ~ Link to comment
