slightly o/t: anyone breed their own baitfish?

My husband and I are looking at moving back home (well my home) to Florida and some of the properties we've been looking at are river front. I always prefer live bait if I can afford it and the best bass I've caught are always using shiners. I can catch them on soft or hard baits, but my biggest are always on live, particularly shiners.

I was just thinking how impractical it would be for me to have to leave my house to go buy shiners. Then one thought led to another on buying a bunch and setting up a holding tank, and I want to know if anyone here has bred their own baitfish. I was thinking of two tanks to house male and females seperately so I don't end up with 10000 fish.

Has anyone done this?

I once had a good population of minnows ( I think creek chub) in a small pond ( 4 foot by 4 foot by 3 foot) before, and honestly I think if you used a large aquarium you could probably get a good population of shiners going.

Don't house genders separate either, the biggest worry you should have is rearing the larvae.
