Drs1685
Does this look like coralline or something else, it looks like coralline to me, not hairy or anything and won't rub off, but it appeared out of nowhere over the last week or so. 2 Month old tank btw, Link to comment
CJJon
Green Algae. Coralline doesn't grow that fast. Link to comment
HarryPotter
Green Algae. Coralline doesn't grow that fast. +1, definitely not Coraline. Dont stress though; rocks SHOULD get some color. I vote you give us a whole tank shot! Link to comment
HarryPotter
image.jpg Okay, thats exactly what I expected. The tank is pretty young (I would not have put in LPS this early, but if they're healthy who am I to argue) and the cycle seems to still be going. If you want to reduce the green algae, you can run Chemi-Pure or other nutrient absorbing media, but that will not help in the long run. Finding the source of the problem, which could be anything from a decomposing crab to excess feeding will be the most helpful, followed by water changes and then chemical/media. Link to comment
CJJon
Yeah, your tank is a young-un. Algae. Gonna turn darker, get brown probably spread. Expect some dusty brown stuff to show up soon too, diatoms. It's going to cover that nice fine sand you got. Keep an eye on the SPS in there so they don't start to get covered in anything. High flow will help. Link to comment
GMay
Soory to disagree. IMO it could be coraline algae. Given that it wont rub off I think it is. Did you start with live rock in your tank? Of not you may have gotten it from a fragment or other things added to the tank. Snails frequently have it growing on their shells. If your chemistry is good, the color of the coraline will go from green to pink, red and purple. Link to comment
Sunstar
I have had green coraline - it grows kinda fast but not that fast. Although it did colonise a glass bowl in my tank in about 2 weeks. change your lights recently? Link to comment
CJJon
Nah, a two month old tank with that much coralline growth in a week? Doubts. Link to comment
Murphs_Reef
Nah, a two month old tank with that much coralline growth in a week? Doubts. Agreed a few very small spots maybe but that would be some thing else if you could grow it like that... I had some very clean dead rock in a pile next to some live rock piles. It goes a green, dark colour after a few weeks, then a few weeks further you'll see round(ish) patches of coralline develop, but slow and small Link to comment
