llama roadkill
I too have a Spec V, great tank so far. I love your scape. Make sure the emerald crab is really an emerald crab and not a gorilla crab or other hairy crab. They can be pretty bad. Link to comment
emkovar
Thanks! I did a quick google search, but how do I tell the difference? He looked pretty green, but disappeared after I turned the lights on. Ok another google search - Next time i see him ill check to see what his claws look like and try to get a better picture. Kimosobey
I have a photobucket account and just copy the image link that way the image is posted directly. No thumbnail or link Or even flickr would work! Hopefully you can get rid of that apstasia! Other than that your tank looks good! The spec v club is growing rapidly! Link to comment
emkovar
I have a picassa account, but when I tried to link the pics came out small. Let me try again: I think i figured it out And look a claw picture! I think he looks like an emerald. Thoughts?? Link to comment
llama roadkill
I'd say that's an emerald crab, but be in the lookout for him and see if you can 100% identify him. Sorry for the false alarm, but it's always a good idea to make sure everything is safe. Link to comment
emkovar
And then there was a CUC. Looks like the tank has cycled, did a 30% water change this morning then off to the LFS. Wanted to start off small. 1 Astrea 2 Cerith 1 Nassarius The Astrea is busy working on the glass and the Ceriths and the Nassarius are working at burying themselves in the sand. On another note - the emerald has stopped the war on the bristle worms and seems to be contented picking at the rocks. So we'll see how the snails fair, then I'll probably add a couple more snails. Pic from a couple of days ago - a lot more algae today: The Emerald Link to comment
emkovar
And now for the corals: I wasn't going to add them this quickly because Im going out of town next week and a friend is looking after the tank, but i couldn't resist: Zoas Acan Link to comment
emkovar
Removed the frag disk from my Acan - it's now pissed off but it looks much nicer overall. Link to comment
raleigh19
Hallo there, Do you have picture on how you fit the new water pump in the second chamber? I want to see how it fit. Thank you so much Link to comment
emkovar
Hallo there, Do you have picture on how you fit the new water pump in the second chamber? I want to see how it fit. Thank you so much Sean.G's tank thread shows how the pump fits in the back chamber. Ive done exactly the same thing. It has so much more flow than the stock pump and it shows when I look at the filter floss. http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/360016-seangs-spec-v-reef-picture-heavy/ Link to comment
emkovar
Ah so much has happened with this tank over the last 6 months (or a bunch of bad stuff and then nothing at all. It all started when some of the zoas started dropping their heads... Recommendation was to start feeding, which I did. What I didn't do was also take the advice to bump up the water changes. Which led to an algae overgrowth **GASP** (surprise, surprise) Anywho... Then at the beginning of the fall, some guys were doing work on the gas line in front of my house. They managed to turn off the gas w/o my knowledge and therefore my heat. Well I came home to a house at about 56 degrees.... My tank was some where around the 65 mark.... Lost my emerald crab, and a couple of snails. This combined with the algae was very discouraging. I stopped feeding and stopped almost everything else at the same time (other then daily(ish) water top ups). This brings us to now: I have a bubble algae issue, multiple large apstasia, at least 2 other types of algae, and it goes on.... Still have multiple snails (1 cerith, 1 astrea(whos shell is covered with bubble algae), 1 Narssarius, and a bunch of Stomatella snails.) I have pretty much nothing else in the tank other then the 10ish colonies of coral and 2 acans. The brittle stars and bristle worms seems to be thriving. I went to the LFS today to see what they recommended, starting from scratch or trying to save this bad situation. The consensus was that with diligent water changes I should be able to bring this back... I bought a new heater as the tank was sitting at about 72 and I wanted something a bit more reliable. Enter the expensive, Neotherm Cobalt.... Also I decided it was time to invest in a ATO system, so I bought the Tunze Osmolator Nano. My new mantra is "I will do 2-3 water changes a week!!" Merthynia
I love my neotherm cobalt heaters, they work so well! I'm sure you'll love it. I think an ATO and the frequent waterchanges will help get this tank back on track, although, it doesn't look too bad for being neglected. Link to comment
