Wander
Long story short, recovering frag from previous owners tank crash. Originally, had thought this was a cap, but thought I would throw it out to NR for input. We will see how it recovers, but I would rather have a better idea of how this will grow before placement/encrusting. Anyone have any ideas? Link to comment
lkoechle
I'm no expert, but I Think its definitely encrusting. If it was plating, I think it would have starting plating by now, or at least that's how mine are. If you google monti ID, there are some good show-off/ID threads around the net. That's what I did when trying to figure out what kind of montis I wanted in my tank. Link to comment
afyounie
Looks encrusting to me, but I don't have a lot of experience with montipora. Definitely a nice color though. What color are the polyps? Link to comment

Thanks afyounie. I was happy to take the frag in hopes of full recovery. The majority is a pale purple, but it is clear that portion is not fully come back. The portion that appears to be encrusting over the "dead" portion is royal purple with purpler/almost burgundy polyps. Link to comment

I have googled purple monti in about every version I can think of. Didn't even think about a broader Monti ID search. You are probably more of an expert than myself. I have no experience with Montis, I have only had one SPS in a Evolve 8 which did very well for a couple years. Still learning a lot about SPS in general. May have not been the best idea to take on a rescue monti, but who could say no to a rescue. (Cue Sarah McLachlan most depressing song in the world. All of our 4 legged friends are rescues, and I would have it no other way, but I cannot stand those commercials.) Link to comment
Wander
Thanks of the help. Looks like NR was absolutely right about encrusting, and I was way off when I first saw it. Heard back from the previous owner. ORA Purple Nurple Montipora. Heres to a full recovery!! Link to comment
