Jbrock183
I have a 10 gallon nano reef tank. I'm looking for a few minor additions (preferably red, blue, or purple) and have been thinking macroalgae would be a great way to improve the ecosystem in general. I bought a piece of dragons breath a few weeks ago, but it is now completely gone. I'm guessing it was eaten, but I'm not sure by what. I have a clownfish, a damsel, red leg hermit, emerald crab, cleaner shrimp, several astrea snails, and a turbo. I also have a few bristle worms, asterina starfish, and tiny brittle starfish, that found their way in on my live rock. I would like a couple different types of macroalgae, but I know next to nothing about it. I'm looking for something that is hardy but won't be invasive, and it appears that I need something my fish and CUC won't eat. Any recommendations for a specific type? Also, does anyone know where I could buy macroalgae online without the terribly expensive shipping fees? Link to comment
Polarcollision
I have most of those in my tank but none eat my macroalgae. Any chance the lights are not bright enough? Edit: what type of turbo snail? Link to comment
Jbrock183
That may have been the problem. I just recently switched to UVL brand. I'm running 2 Super Actinic, 1 454NM, and 1 Indigo Sun - T5 HO. Maybe I should try another dragons breath with the new lighting? Link to comment
Arkayology
While my tang had a taste for the dragon's breath macro, my emerald crab would eat small pieces once in awhile before I moved it from my DT to my fuge. It could be the culprit. I don't think lighting if your issue. 4 T5 bulbs is more than enough for macros. I would suggest adding another bulb with more white/red spectrum though. Link to comment
Polarcollision
Maybe. If you have a mexican turbo snail, that's my first suspect. If the algae faded to somewhat transparent and/or brown and then disappeared then I'd suspect the light first. Link to comment
ndrobey
Emerald crabs and turbo snails are both known to eat Dragon's Breath. Link to comment
Jbrock183
There was no fading. It kept a nice bright red color. Does anyone have suggestions for another type of macroalgae that these guys might not want for dinner? Link to comment

Would the Aquasun bulb by UVL have more of the white/red spectrum? Link to comment
Arkayology
Would the Aquasun bulb by UVL have more of the white/red spectrum?I'd recommend the ATI coral plus bulb for that. I have not used the aqua sun before. Link to comment

Jbrock183
I saw this at my LFS and think it's some type of macroalgae. But no one working that day was able to identify it. Any ideas what it is? Link to comment
