tooflyblm
I have read the “ultimate id thread before you post whats this look here” and I think I have dinoflagellates. My tank is only 3 months old and it is a FOWLR. I’m seeing brown hair like algae on my sand bed. What I got: Innovative Marine Nuvo 8 gallon aquarium 6lbs of dry rock ½ inch of a live sand bed Tunze 3155 ATO Innovative Marine Spin Stream Media Basket Live Stock: 1 Sexy Shrimp 2 Scarlet Hermit Crabs 2 nassarius snails 1 Emerald crab1 clownfish Parameters pH: 8.2 Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 10 Salinity: 1.022 When my tank was first setup I did not have a RO/DI system so I used tap water with a water conditioner (I know it was a rookie mistake). My outbreak is 2 ½ weeks old and since then I have purchase a RO/DI system and I have done two 50% water changes. I’ve also done a 2 day blackout which seems to work but it came back 2 days later. I’m also using microbacter 7. I’m still doing research on what this outbreak is and a solution to fix it but I need confirmation that dinoflagellates is what I have. Thanks for reading and any help you can offer. Link to comment
WibblyPig
I think that's cyanobacteria, not dyno. Chemiclean will take care of it but not the root cause. It may have been caused by the initial tapwater or it may be too many nutrients and not enough flow. See if you can get more flow to that area and get your nitrates down by keeping up on the water changes. Link to comment
