caseyz
I am planning on taking the guts out of a work light and mounting the reflector and socket to the top of my wood hood. I am planning on routing holes in the wood over the light and then attaching a fan to the top of the hood to pull air out. My question is has anyone mounted one of these things on wood? I know it is going to get very hot, and I don't want to set the thing on fire. Ideas? Link to comment
MattGecko
Yes I have both a 70W and 150W mounted in wood canopies. I get very little heat from the them with a small fan blowing the hot air out of the canopy. I ran the 150W without a fan as a test, I placed my hand on the top outside the canopy and the wood got warm-hot but did not get hot enough to catch fire or burn my hand. When you install the HQI socket & reflector add a washer in between the wood canopy. Link to comment
caseyz
Thanks, I was thinking of using some washers to space it, that sounds like a plan. Link to comment
birdman204
You washer idea will assist in cooling. Do not mount them with out a reflector, or you will burn the wood. Trust me Link to comment
