xavier1
Hey, Thanks for stopping in! This is my build thread for my newest tank, a Deep Blue 45g Peninsula tank. My roommate and I have both been in the hobby for 10+ years and have had many tanks, but this time we decided to do something different. We have very different ideas about what the best/most efficient way to run a tank is, and we thought it would be interesting to compare and contrast the different things you can do with the same tank. We found matching peninsula tanks and decided to put them back to back. This is going to basically be a photo drop thread. I take a lot of pictures, as I like to track the progress of the tank. First tank stand I have ever built, I think it went pretty well for not having any idea what I was doing.http://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/2A779C5D-0054-4DF3-BB4F-4773BADCE6C6_zpsbmxkmswb.jpg.html'> Both tanks side filling up http://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/3E5A7C64-1A0C-43B3-8538-22C270C5A6FA_zpsjdig8qn7.jpg.html'> Aquascaped using Haitian rock, I love this stuff. xavier1
thanks! I am looking forward to filling it. Not sure if I am going to try a theme with this tank, or just let it be an "ultimate mix" tank. Lighting is 2x150 watt halides. Fixture has 2x 65 watt compacts but I am not using them. xavier1
What're the main differences that you and your room mate are going to do for your respective tanks? Well, he is doing a Caribbean biotope, and we are collecting almost all of the stuff that goes in his tank. Mine will be a mixed region reef. Im thinking a zoa/mushroom/anemone/gorgonian/lps lair haha Link to comment

xavier1
Hey reefers and reefettes,Went shopping today and got some goodies for the tank. Awesome nonphotosythetic gorgonian (Swiftia? Still need to ID it properly)http://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/10818761_10205529458574774_46499391_n_zpsa9ce60c0.jpg.html'>Im really hoping the green star polyps take over "The tip" and give the tank a nice florescence. the candy canes weren't doing very well in my nano, so they were one of the test corals for this tank, I think they are doing much better.http://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/10811222_10205529458214765_1049492439_n_zpsae7835f3.jpg.html'>Some St. Thomas Mushroomshttp://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/10807064_10205529458174764_1390926654_n_zps609ba336.jpg.html'>http://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/10805213_10205529458134763_182817617_n_zpsd34f1f65.jpg.html'>I got a green Montipora capricornus and a green Montipora digitata frag and broke it into a bunch of pieces and glued them onto the arching rock, I hope to get a few more varieties of Montipora and let that be a cool color contrast piece. http://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/10807121_10205529457934758_741663858_n_zps67286a59.jpg.html'>Placing a Ricordia floridahttp://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/10806918_10205529458614775_1548000788_n_zps61226bb0.jpg.html'>And here are some tank shots without my ugly arm in the way. Thanks for looking!http://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/10815745_10205529458694777_1076491400_n_zps0ca66819.jpg.html'>http://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/10811565_10205529457414745_1537485634_n_zps820888be.jpg.html'>http://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/10814363_10205529457814755_142414163_n_zpsb9e7772c.jpg.html'>http://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/10799523_10205529458814780_711169053_n_zps7e1ecdf6.jpg.html'>http://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/10808171_10205529458294767_248844371_n_zps07fca8cd.jpg.html'>http://s31.photobucket.com/user/reefgeek/media/Just%20the%20Tip/10804951_10205529458414770_144033694_n_zpsd65f4ea1.jpg.html'> Link to comment

xavier1
I did the unspeakable yesterday.. I added an anemone... or 18! There was a rock of bleached out anemones that my roommate, myself, and the store owner couldn't identify at the LFS so I got a killer deal, and I couldn't let the poor guys stay there, so I took them home. As I started peeling them (aka hammer and chisel) off the rock, I realized I may be making a grave mistake. Its a new tank, and thats a HUGE bioload. Nems are disgusting creatures. Anyway, I threw them in, and they attached immediately, faster than putting a frag with super glue on it in there. So far so good, but its day 2... so fingers are crossed. After being in my tank for 10 minutes or so, the tentacles got shorter and started to "bubble" so I think I may have 18 new BTAs in there. Now I'm really tempted to take my pair of clowns from the 7 gallon and let them have free reign. Link to comment
jedimasterben
How is adding anything a 'huge bioload'? Bioload is what you put into the tank, aka food. If you're not adding more food than you were before, your bioload addition is zero. Link to comment

If you're not adding more food than you were before, your bioload addition is zero. Ive always understood that bioload is made up of anything thats living. By that I mean, everything from a copepod to a zoanthid polyp is going to contribute to the overall waste produced in a given body of water. Anemones can create waste without adding anything to the water. They are photosynthetic which is what allows them to feed, which is why they can do so well without spot feedings, and they produce waste from the feedings of zooxanthellae, contributing to the tanks "bioload" Link to comment

Think of it kind of like the law of conservation of energy or mass, you can't create nitrogenous waste in the tank without adding it from somewhere else. Link to comment
