reeferx2
A sponge will become a "nitrate factory" if you dont clean. A sponge traps poop. Prevents poop from collecting on your biological and chemical media. Take out sponge. Wash or replace sponge frequently. Poop out of tank. How does your biomax get poop out of the tank.? How do you keep it from collecting poop? When biomax collects poop, and you dont clean it, it becomes a 'nitrate factory'. When you clean your biomax, youre washing your biological filter down the drain. What happens to your tank without a biological filter? thank you for a definitive answer. I will be switching back to sponge at the bottom, chemipure in the middle, and biomax will be the icing on the cake. Sound like a plan?? Link to comment
reeferx2
a sponge can definitely be used if rinsed and maintained correctly but you will find that many people use http://www.shop.mediabaskets.com/Value-Pack-Poly-Filter-Floss-3PACK.htm?gclid=CPqq0I7aicICFa5aMgodJBUAZw or http://www.amazon.com/Morning-Glory-20-Ounce-Premium-Fiberfill/dp/B0040ZOOIU which makes it easier to just cut to size and toss after use. thanks dude, I'm going to stick with my sponge. I've got no problems giving everything in my media basket a nice rinse once a week. Lord knows after all the money I've spent, an additional minute of maintenance isn't going to kill me.
