Homeless Fish

I recently received a yellow tang as a gift from a friend. I went to the local fish store the other day and found out that they dont do trade-ins or credit for saltwater fish (which sucked!). Not too sure if it will be happy in my 18 gallon tall reef tank. Its still pretty small (little less than 2"). Any suggestions on what to do? Would it grow too big for the tank? What would you guys do?
