Dr.Brain Coral
I know these are not good beginner inverts at all and I will wait till I am more experienced but I was wondering what would tabk dimensions need to be for a tank only for a carpet nem. I was thinkin of a square tank with dimensions about 30 by 30 by 20 with a deep sandbed. No rock in the main tank and instead a live rock sump and a heavy duty skimmer. Does anybody have any other suggestions Link to comment

jestep
90 gallon cube is a good starting size for a haddoni. I think you have a good starting point. Basically good quality water (6 month to a year tank age minimum), good lighting, and good flow. They're not especially difficult if you have the correct setup for them.Moving them can be tricky. As pointed out above the stings can be nasty. If you're allergic to them they can cause anaphylaxis. I would wear elbow or shoulder length gloves whenever working in the tank. They are extremely sticky to the point you can damage or tear them trying to remove them. Also they can produce an unbelievable amount of goo if taken out of the water, like cups of it. They'll kill any fish that they don't accept for hosting including clownfish. Have a much better chance with clarki's or sabae's and probably bicinctus (Spotcinctus), for hosting successfully than percs or ocys. Link to comment
Dr.Brain Coral
I wasn't planning on any fish. So the dimensions sound big enough? I was expecting to be flamed haha Thanks for being civil everbody Link to comment

You asked the question before you went out and bought the 'nem, nothing wrong with that. Link to comment

May be also related to ones in mixed reef tanks though, so not sure if it matters in a species only tank. Link to comment
Dr.Brain Coral
Okay Ill look into the necessities of hosts more Link to comment

I think Tidal Gardens has a good video on youtube about them. The amount of pain varies person to person. Namely if the anemone is healthy and if you have an allergic reaction. 30 x 30 x 20 sounds great, although I'd make it shallower (Easier to light) and add some clownfish. Make sure to have good filtration and WC's even with so few fish. Link to comment
xXReeferXx
I think it would be cool to have a slope with the back being higher...and hope to god that the think is kinda slanted so you could see the polyps(I think thats what they are called) as the bottom is usually just tannish although they have a mind of their own haha.Do make sure you cover up any and all valves with a screen until the poor bugger settles in(RIP my little bubble boy=(...) hypostatic
A LFS near me has a small-is cube (20? 30? gallons) with a huge blue carpet as the centerpiece. It's gorgeous. I'd TOTALLY get a tank just for that animal. It's marvelous. Next time I'm there I'll snap a pic. Link to comment
Dr.Brain Coral
Please do. I will be in Buffalo tomorrow and my favorite lfs there had a green one last time I was there Link to comment
Dr.Brain Coral
What would be a good semi inexpensive light for a Carpet? Link to comment
jestep
250W MH Pendant. Used MH fixtures are dirt cheap nowadays. Plusrite 20K bulbs cost about $15 each. Link to comment
East1
I absolutely love the idea of a tank with nothing but sand and a showpiece carpet! I looked into adding one to my pico system but you can't get the same effect even with a hand picked BTA Link to comment

I have been really into anemones lately and the Carpet is the coolest. 250W MH Pendant. Used MH fixtures are dirt cheap nowadays. Plusrite 20K bulbs cost about $15 each. I will look into those lights more, but are any LEDs suitable for a Carpet? If they support sps will they sustain a Carpet nem? Link to comment

Yes, but MH would be a little cheaper now that people are selling them for next to nothing. Also put some small pieces of rock near the base, and maybe towards the corners of the tank. I'd definitely get a sump with a good skimmer, carbon, and some more rock. Link to comment
East1
most LEDs have come pretty far. for a tank like that I'd go with a high wattage multichip LED, perhaps even a 100W with a dimmer. You get the shimmer of halide with a far more effecient light source Link to comment
hypostatic
So how long would you have to be running the LEDs vs MH for the LEDs to start being cheaper? Link to comment
East1
I run a 30W LED over my mangrove tank for the same amount of time as I would any light, but brightness/intensity it's comparable I'd say to a 150W MH, if not moreso. It cost me less than 100$ to build the entire thing, including a fan based cooling system and a bracket I made from an ikea lamp, I posted a full list somewhere that I can copy here if necessary. tl;dr it'll be in the region of a few times cheaper from the get go Link to comment
hypostatic
Ok, my memory of the LFS was way off, and the tank is like around 100G lol. Here's the tank: closeup of the nem: Link to comment
