Partially Submerged
I thought about posting this to the pico section of the board, but it's probably more a beginner question. I currently have an AC70 on my 3g pico tank. I recently moved the tank to a new location, and the filter is suddenly a lot more visible than before. Would I get away with only a powerhead (and no filter) in a tank this small? I only have three snails, the usual bristle worms, pods, and limpets, and the corals, of course. I replace 80% of the water weekly. Link to comment
aviator300
I don't see why not. The only things the filter does is 1. Filter particulates. 2. Hold your chosen media. 3. Provide circulation. If you are doing large weekly water changes, then you are exporting excess nutrients that way and a powerhead would provide circulation. You might consider getting a much smaller filter (AC 20 or 30 or some other mini filter) for particulate removal or to hold bags of carbon if you need them but i think the powerhead alone would suffice if you do good maintenance.
