Frustrated Mermaid
Hi, I have a baby blue tang (size of a nickle) and it DID have cryto about 3 weeks ago. We're well past that. I've treated for secondary infections, etc. The problem is, for about a week now, the little guy has a singular white raised "spot" (or lack of better term, looks like a pimple) just behind the nape at uppermost part of fin. The 'spot' is not spreading or growing, it just remains. Not spreading to other fish in QT. I've started treatments for fungus (2x) with no apparent results. I've continued to treat with Melafix also. Help???? Any ideas? Link to comment
oldtimer
Sounds like it may be lymphocystis caused by a virus. There is no cure, but fish usually recover if tank conditions are good. Link to comment
pyrrhus
i concur with oldtimer, most likely lymphocystitis. in a marine tank i would not use any anti-fungal medications, fungal infestations in saltwater are very rare, and if you do indeed have a fungal infection, then the tank is usually so messed up the fungus is the least of your worries.
