Mariaface
I once found a huge deal on Amazon for filter floss (I think it was being advertised for pond purposes). $18, free shipping, and I'm still getting through the package a year and a half later. inTank sells filter floss as well, in large sheets that you can cut down to size. jbb
I sometimes use polyfil from walmart, or buy some felt from the fabric area and cut to fit. POLYFIL http://www.walmart.com/ip/Fairfield-Poly-Fil-Premium-Polyester-Fiberfill-12-oz-FOB-MI/26678911 Link to comment
Dramad1
Intank has some nice floss. I like there's better than the rest and haven't been able to find the same style floss anywhere. Good stuff Link to comment
Mariaface
Found the link! It was half off that price at the time I purchased it, I'd have to compare around to see how good a price it currently is. Link to comment
Pancetta
Yep, the stuff from InTank is good. Just bought some through Amazon since I was ordering some things for my wife. InTank was the vendor for Amazon! Link to comment
Mstefa1
For floss, regular poly fill from Walmart is cheap and works great. For filter pad, whatever is cheap. I'm convenient and I purchase locally from Petco but any bonded filter pad will do. Don't get emotional about it - toss it in the trash and replace it no more than every 5 days. Link to comment
Kijho
Using just the poly stuff from my LFS. I have a Spec V for I get this huge roll for $10 and I haven't even used half in several months weekly changes. Link to comment

I'd say replace them as often as you like; replacing them daily helps minimize the amount of detritus that breaks down in them. What I do is baste the rocks every other day so whatever comes off of them gets sucked in through the filtration, and as soon as the water clears I replace them. Link to comment
buckeyereefer
I will check on the stuff from InTank. I can probably find other stuff to order from Seve also. LOL I need to look back on craigslist an find the pink stuff I seen advertised. will post link if I do to see what you guys think. Link to comment

jestep
http://www.bigalspets.com/filter-floss-10-sq-ft.html Best value I've ever found. They have 20 sq ft rolls as well, but 10 should last years for a nano tank. Link to comment

Don't go more than 5 days w/o changing. Otherwise it builds up nitrates. The more often the better, but changing every 3-5 days is best. You have to juggle the chore, the cost, and the effectiveness of how often you change. I change filter socks about every 3 days. Link to comment
Sk8n Reefer
This keeps popping up on my craigslist search for aquariums- looks like a good floss- think I might try it- I tend to change my floss every few days - but I feed pretty heavily. 10ft. Long 12" wide 1" thick roll for 12.95. http://www.pinkyfilters.com/ Link to comment

If you can find it for a better price per square foot, it might be worth it, but this stuff is half an inch thinner and may not have a fine enough weave on the pink side, while the white side is almost nonexistent. Tamberav
I use the cheap poly fil from walmart. Works fine and bag lasts forever and ever... Link to comment
StevieT
Lol pink. KFC won't even accept it as filtration. Too much batter gets througH and clogs the coils. Link to comment

I think the 10ft piece for 12.95 is a pretty good deal. I think when it's time I will ck it out- 12.95 won't break the bank. I always use 2 pieces of the blue/white sandwiched together in my media rack- so the 1inch thickness doesn't really concern me- we will see Link to comment
