lousybreed Posted June 30, 2004 Share Posted June 30, 2004 I could get a DIY VHO set up with URI 1 actinic and 1 aquasun for $100 flat. This would give me 150W of lighting. I dont plan on growing SPS...i think this would be a great set up. Plus it is a very cheap setup!!! the lights are 24" so the hood would be 2-3" longer than the tank. All this is from hellolights.com it is an electronic vho ballast, endcaps and lights. has anyone ever used this set-up? will it cook the tank? Link to comment
fade2black Posted June 30, 2004 Share Posted June 30, 2004 VHO runs much cooler than MH. I run 385W of VHO over my 50 and it's fine. I have an open back on my hood and can open the front if the temps start to rise in the summer. I also have two 3" fans in the hood as well. My temp never goes over 80 even on the hottest summer day. I say go for it if it's what you want. I keep SPS in my tank under VHO and they do fine. Link to comment
