Sony RX100 : Help me decide

Hey guys,

Currently I use a Sony NEX 5N with a adapter to use my old Nikon glass. Great for stills and Nano Box stuff but I am wanting something a bit quicker to use. Rather than pulling out everything, putting glass on, setting up.

I use my phone for 90% of my quick photos for Nano Box/flickr page. I am wanting something I can snap quick, load quickly and edit. I would be using this for Nano Box and personal.

I am finding new RX100 for ~420-450. I could always use that money to buy a new AF lens for the 5N but just still unsure.

Any feedback would be great.

Is portability a concern? Will the smaller size of the RX100 make you more likely take it with you when you leave the house, or do you find the NEX easy enough to carry already?

If you want to save money and stick with your NEX, consider purchasing this $199 Sigma 30mm f/2.8 prime lens: http://www.adorama.com/SG3028DSONB.html. It's nicely compact, has great optics, and will give you a nice shallow depth of field at f/2.8. The focal length is pretty versatile as well, as a 45mm equivalent.

If you want an even more compact lens, or something wider, consider Sony's 16mm f/2.8 pancake lens for $50 more at $248: http://www.adorama.com/ISO1625EA.html. That's a 24mm equivalent lens, nice and wide.

Better yet, buy them both for as much as you would have spent on the RX100.

Chris,

Crazy! I totally forgot about the Sigma 30mm lens. I just checked eBay out and found one for ~140. Hmmmm :)

Thanks for the input.
