PRJ
I finally found someone who could loan me a PAR meter to measure the output I'm getting from my fixture. Boy am I glad I did! I was running the light too low (A: 45, B:75) it seems. This comes from the realization that I hung my light about 11" above the water's surface, where the leg mounts put the light around 8" from the water's surface. Apparently those 3 inches make a world of difference. Without further adieu, here's a hastily put together picture with PAR readings at each of my corals, plus a few other random spots once I cranked the light up to A:75, B:100. It's a big pic and you'll probably have to zoom in to see the PAR numbers I MS Paint'd on. Here's the corals with the numbers: Blue Cali Tort: 275 Maxima on sand: 180 ORA Bird of Paradise: 220 Poccilipora damicornis: 170 War Coral: 140 Some Palys: 70 Aussie Gold Torch: 180 Green Hammer: 100 ORA Green Birdsnest: 190 ORA Pink Birdsnest: 200 Dragon Soul Favia: 210 Xenia: 200 Some dragon eye zoas: 200 Blue Hornet zoas: 145 A few of these seem a bit high, so I might tinker with their placement. I was pretty impressed with the uniformity of the 140-220 PAR levels in the middle of the tank. It seems as if hanging the light higher and increasing its intensity is probably the cause of such good uniformity. The lowest parts I measured were the front corners, of course, a good 27" below the light at an angle, and still with 85 PAR. Link to comment
