tetraodon
so in the excitment about getting a new coral i was making a new rack and used some silicone, i waited till the silicone was dry to the touch to put the rack in the tank, today i came home and the tank is cloudy, ive done 2 water changes now and im running carbon, is there anything else i can do to make sure the tank doesnt crash? 21093r53
was the silicon 100 percent dry all the way through? Link to comment
tetraodon
it might not have been, it was mostly firm with one small spot that was slightly soft, but the whole surface was dry at least Link to comment
GHill762
It needs to cure to the point where it no longer smells like vinegar. This can take a couple days. Link to comment
tetraodon
yea it was a dumb thing to do, i guess we will see, Link to comment
Nocturnal
I believe it just gives off acetic acid (vinegar). Keep an eye on your PH. It's a fairly week acid and it's probably not putting out a ton of it. Link to comment
tetraodon
well my lps corals are all sliming like crazy and some little white things have started apearing on them Link to comment
21093r53
that shit needs to be hard before use the #### = glue Link to comment
tetraodon
yea i guess i wont use silicone unless i guarantee a weeks drying time Link to comment

tetraodon
i dont understand, i guess im missing something Link to comment
Chew_Magna
Silicone is pretty hazardous before it fully cures. Run a ton of carbon and do lots of water changes or you could easily lose everything. Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Better yet, get a friend to hold all your coral for you until it passes. Leaving your livestock in a silicon infested tank will just end in tears. Link to comment
Chew_Magna
That's probably better. The silicone will continue to leach until it cures, and there's no telling how long that can take underwater, if at all. Link to comment
el_ote
i hope the rack is out. it wasnt stated but im just making sure. Link to comment
tetraodon
As of rihht now ive several water changes and ran lots of carbon, this morning all the coral was pissed off and stressed but I didnt loose anything and hopefully wont, my pistol shrimp didnt seam to notice anything, the rack xame out as soon I had the idea about the silicone Link to comment
vw4life
the standard drying time is 72hrs but the longer the better... Link to comment
