kny25
Can I use the metal halide fixture sell at home depot and switch the bulb to a 14k bulb? Link to comment
ReeferTim
I have also seen the MH bulbs at Home Depot but im not sure if they are the correct spectrum for corals... this is something that needs investigating..... Link to comment
fade2black
He's talking about the fixture, not the bulbs. HD doesn't sell any bulbs good for a reef. Link to comment
BKtomodachi
No, you cant just switch bulbs, becuase they wont start properly, but they probably wont start at all. Link to comment
Vorian
Metal Halide from home depot is a waste of time. For one their kelvin rating is around 4000 which is far to weak to provide any good lighting. Not to mention that the bulb itself is huge and good luck trying to make a hood or even buy one that will house it. You need a specific halide ballast to fire a halide bulb. Your best bet is to just get a SE or DE setup and shell out the bux. If you skimp on lighting in the beginning you end up paying for it in the long run. Link to comment
