First Reef Shots with my new 1Dmk2 w/ 100mm f/2.8 Macro

here are some pics i took of some of my corals tonight. i hope to grab a tripod soon and a remote to get things sharper.

A few of the focus points suggest you might be using the autofocus on your coral shots. I bet you might like the results even more if you used the manual focus. Autofocus is sometimes best for moving subjects, like your fish. I hate to be critical, as I really like the shots a lot.

I used manual focus but without the tripod shooting at f/2.8 gave me a paper thin focal range. And shooting handheld Ibasically had to slowly move to find the sweet spot and hope I snapped at the right time.

Ha, that makes sense. You can see how shallow the DOF is; it's a nice effect. Yeah a tripod will give you a more precise focus and better results (not that your results were bad).
