Bobyboy
Well I went to Best Buy to pick up a basic point and shoot camera to take on vacation and ended up buying this Cannon SX300is on clearance for 100.00. The pictures turned out great and look many times better than my iPhone. My photography knowledge is limited to using my iPhone camera and basic P&S. I have only used it on the Auto mode, I haven't really tried anything else as I didn't want to screw anything up while I was away. I was just wondering if any one here has any experience using this camera for shooting there reefs. Any advice would be great as I've been reading the booklet that came with it and am ready to start getting some nice pics of my tanks. Link to comment
Lawnman
I know about as much as you when it comes to cameras. I just looked that camera up it looks really nice. I am on the hunt for a camera to take good pictures of my reef as well. But I don't want to spend a fortune on it. I hope you will update this thread with pictures. Or shoot me a PM on how you end up liking it. Link to comment

seabass
A Canon SX500 IS for $100 is a good deal! You should be able to get some decent shots with it. Place a piece of white paper under your lights to set the custom white balance. I am on the hunt for a camera to take good pictures of my reef as well. But I don't want to spend a fortune on it.How much do you wish to spend? If you could get the same deal as Bobyboy, I'd say go for it. You can get a Canon SX160 for less than $150 (or SX150 for $119 @Amazon). IDK, you might also look at some used cameras: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ns=p_PRICE_2%7c0&ci=15487&N=4294182650&srtclk=sort Link to comment

seabass
Great, check out a Panasonic LX7: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMC-LX7K-Digital-Intelligent-3-0-inch/dp/B008MB719C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382321883&sr=8-1&keywords=panasonic+lx7. Not a mega zoom, but do some research and see if it's a good fit for you. It's got a larger sensor and decent manual controls. For something a little cheaper and more zoom (20x), check out a Canon SX280 HS: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-SX280-Stabilized-Black/dp/B00BW6LTG0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382323425&sr=8-1&keywords=Canon+sx280 Link to comment
