can 100 watts house bulbs be used for lighthening my aquarium??

hi i would like to do a custum hood for my ten gallon and is it okay if i put 2 x 100 watts ??

 

but they r normal bulb for the house so??

 

oh and i know i9 will need mini fans...

You could really only use them if it was a fish only tank. The specrum would probably be wrong with no intensity either. Maybe you could buy 4 of the 20 watt incandescent based bulbs with built in compact flourecent bulbs and ballast.

Incandescent bulbs are useless in reef tanks. Complete wrong spectrum. Corals need a mimimum of 5500 to 6500k Kelvin. If you can find an incandescent that has the correct spectrum let me know. I dont; think that they are made.

travis, youd do better to get a Current USA Orbit housing. That way you can upgrade to metal halide later by putting a 70w DE in there. And yes, normal house bulbs will just blow up your algae growth in a reef tank.

is this a troll? some curly florescent lamps for standard sockect can be used and produce 6500k. there are some old threads in diy section that can help. don't torture your critters by not giving them the proper lights.
