coral reefer tx
I have two small half-inch areas with this purple algae looking stuff.. Algae fingers are less than a quarter inch long and I've never tried to remove. It doesn't look bad, but now I'm concerned that it might be purple hair algae and if so I assume I should try to get it out of there. It's not growing quickly. Tank is healthy, and parameters are ok. iPhone pic attached. Any thoughts regarding whether or not this is a concern? Link to comment
dtitus1
Looks like blue ochtodes to me but i can't be sure from the pic. If it is don't worry about it I paid to have that stuff in my tank. Link to comment
JoeDigiorgio
It looks like a stringy blue form of coralline algae. It's common on rock from certain areas. Link to comment
coral reefer tx
Thanks. I tried to upload a better photo but can't. The stuff ive got doesn't look like the photos I've seen of blue Octodes. Hopefully it's a type of coralline ... I found an online pic of Gelidium, (Red Wiry Turf Algae) and unfortunately it looks like that. Its very slow growing so I won't get too stressed. Thanks again. SantaMonica
The more it grows, the more nutrients it absorbs from the water Link to comment
