Clown Question

I have a False Perc Clown, he/she is about 10 months to a year old. I have had it for about 4 months and it is acting differently the past 3 nights.

When the lights go out, it will swim to the front of the tank and rub and wiggle on the sand bed. It has never done this before. It is almost as if he/she is using the sand bed as an anemone. He/she does this for about two hours then swims to a powerhead and swims against the current for a couple of minutes then goes back to that same spot and sleeps/rest until morning. He/She has almost cleared out sand bed in that one spot. I have a 3 inch bed.

I think my clown is maybe changing sex from male to female and this is a form of nesting? I don't know, any ideas out there? My search did not provide anything.
