Do I need to sterilize after medication?

I have a 40 gallon hospital tank and I received a sick tang with ich. I treated it with medication, but it died anyway. Do I need to empty it and sterilize it now. The tank will be uninhabited for a while. Can I let the medication wear off or do I have to sterilize. What if you treat for bacteria. Do you have to sterilize for that too?

The main problem with most antibiotics/poisens is oxygen depletion. I have found this is sometimes more harmfull to the fish than the parasite/bacteria you are treating for. Follow the manufacturers instructions (usually large waterchanges) to remove the antibiotic/poisen. Do twice what they say over double the time, run activated carbon for 12-24 hours after and you should be fine, assuming you killed all the ICK the first treatment.

i always though that rid ich was a freshwater medication...

HmMMm.. i could be wrong...

or is that kordons rid ich?

which is suppose to be stronger than formalin and malachite green together...

that stuff is mainly used for freshwater but they claim that it "can" be used on saltwater.

ohh, and sorry to hear about the tang :(
