uglybuckling
Just a couple teaser shots; this one is still under construction. The goal is to let the live rock cure over the vacation they give me in late December. The plan is as follows: 15 gallon display tank (standard Aqueon; 24 x 12 x 12 inches) Badfish Reef Systems AIO for a 20 gallon long; the one that goes in the center of the back of the tank Badfish Reef Systems media basket Maxi-Jet 900 with Hydor FLO "Hang on back" kgoldy-style deep sand bed / mangrove / chaeto fuge driven by a second Maxi-Jet 900; built into a Deep Blue 2.3 gallon betta tank (18 x 6 x 7 inches) MP10 or other circulation pump, if necessary (likely will be) DIY full-spectrum display tank LED lighting including 405 and 430nm true violets DIY LED light for refugium chamber of Badfish AIO DIY LED light for mangrove fuge Black sand Leftover pukani rock from my 75/33/20 build Zoas More zoas Six-line wrasse and/or tiny goby/shrimp combo, if folks think I can get away with it (not great at stocking tiny tanks like this; this really is only my second true "nano" tank). I'll be doing a series of youtube tutorials on building full-spectrum DIY LED lights, using the display tank's light from this build as an example. The display: I have the best girlfriend in the world because: (1) she lets me use the kitchen for building tank stands, (2) she drinks red wine from a bottle labeled "47 pound rooster" (3) she is okay with having a fishtank next to the bed, and (4) she actually asked me today if she could get a matching tank for her nightstand, in which to keep a mantis. YES. Yes she can. The back of the mini-stand: 2x4s, 3/4" ply, and styrofoam. And the hang on back mangrove/chaeto/DSB/awesome fuge: Link to comment
Julian_blnc
Like the mini-stand and hood. DIY? Link to comment
uglybuckling
If you can't tell whether or not it's DIY, that counts as a win. Yes, they are in fact DIY. *smile* I'm getting better. I really ought to take some pictures of my evolution in stand-building over the years. My first one was SO BAD. Screw it, I got nothin' better to do. *runs off to take a picture of the ugliest stand ever* Link to comment
uglybuckling
Okay, here we go. These are *not* from the current build, they're from a long time ago, when I didn't have a workshop. This stand is currently being used for my girlfriend's Kenyan sand boa. He doesn't seem to mind that his stand looks like it was made by a five-year-old. Misaligned edges: check. Water-based stain on pine with no pre-treatment --> uneven staining: check. Still held up a 20g long for five years with no issues. Link to comment
uglybuckling
Alright, updates: Set up the heatsinks: Finished most of the stand and painted it: The small tank rim peeking up in the back is the 18 x 6 x 7 inch Deep Blue 5B tank, which will be used for a deep sand bed / mangrove / chaeto fuge. Then I got interrupted by...well...this: ....my girlfriend special-ordered them from Japan. Link to comment
