Kid03
Hello So I will be building a new reef tank from scratch and hope with Nano-Reefs helpers that this will become epic. This is my first post, but have been lurking around for about a year or more. Seeing all you guys/girls helping eachother out, that I may as well start a thread. Wish me luck, here it goes. Glass Cube Nano 15"x15"x15" Polished/Beveled edges. Drilled with 2" PVC overflow and 1" PVC return. Sump 14"x14"15" (Need help with Design here) I have to figure out how much flow is needed for Mixed reef. DIY Elos style stand 15"x15"x35" RODI filter from BRS Mag float I already have some small things. But could use some advise. My total goal is NOT to see ANYTHING inside the tank ever, other than livestock.. Please Help me decided on whats next? Link to comment

~LadyBug~
No Love for the new Kid? Dude, give people more than an hour to reply, lol What would be best for lighting up this tank?Soft, lps, sps, zoas ect. Anyone reccomend something good, nice looking and will make corals grow while looking great? Check out the tank of the month articles, that's where I always start for hardware; I find all the tanks within a few gallons of the size of mine to get ideas. On a tank this size, the most common fixture is a PAR38 LED bulb. If you'd like something else, micro-reefs has a lot of pico/nano sized options. If you don't want to see ANYTHING in the tank, lily pipes would be a very clean look. Link to comment

You pretty well have what you need for a fowlr. But I'd get some live rock for biological filtration, a powerhead for added circulation and gas exchange, and a light. Since its only a fowlr it doesn't need to be a fancy light, heck t8s would work fine. But if you wanted to bring out the colors of the fish and coraline algae a bit more get a cheap t5 fixture. Easy enough protein skimmer should be necessary for a this tank, just small water changes regularly. Good luck Link to comment

I do have one return pump I can use for diy closed loop as flow + 305 filter. retun pump is 300ish GPH shuld work well enough? Ive got 3lbs of live rock I can steal from my nano reef. Just tryin to safer than sorry later Link to comment
thehobdenmarina
300gph plus the filter should be plenty for fish only. The main this is circulating for gas exchange and that should be plenty. Keep in mind though since your live rock will be minimal your tank won't handle a large bioload well for a few months. So stock slowly. IMO. Link to comment

After some thinking, id like to make this a reef tank. full spectrum lighting. Question is Drilled+ 10gal sump OR Custom AIO from YankeePete? Ill see about some kind of rimless screen top for jummpers. looking into mp10 + 300gal return pump for the only flow? What option is better for filtering? Slowly stocking min rockscape few fish. Twostepper4041
I would get it away from the window unless you have good alge control Link to comment
Kid03
I would get it away from the window unless you have good alge control Yes I will move it 3 feet to the left. away from window. This is just where I left it overnight! Thanks tho. Ill probably need a bunch of snails anyways to help with alge. Tryin to decided where to drill this thing. bottom left side, dual back or ? lol Link to comment
Kid03
And we have holes now Any feedback would be cool Im thinking of haveing a cube sump with rock/macro gravity feed ATO and use a Fluval 305 filter to power a hidden internal closed loop of sorts. Link to comment
