running 70 watt bulb on 150w pendant

i have an aquamedic ocean light, 150 watt pendant hqi/DE lamp, could i install a smaller bulb (70 watt) in it, would that work?

 

i think 150 watt over 12Gal is overkill, and electricity i expensive as hell here (something like 20-25 cents a kwh)

Electricity should be a non issue with a difference of 80 watts. and NO 150 is not overkill for that size. It is perfect. If you are wooried about frying things go 20k

I was kidding about the boom thing.

 

It isn;t going to physcially blow up, but maye shorten the life of the bulb dramtically. That is, if it will even fire up.
