Bio-pellet reactor for freshwater planted aquariums?

Thinking about doing a Nano reef or possibly a Nano freshwater planted aquarium. i have seen some nice nano bio pellet reactors available lately. does anybody know if these can also be used in freshwater systems? and if so does it make a big difference like it does for Reefs?

low nutrient levels isnt something you try to achieve in a planted tank and besides planted tanks cant even compare to a nano reef so just stick with a reef
