Mushroom pest?

Hi there,

 

I am new to aquariums, and my boyfriend is the real aquarium genius. He's away from his tank for months, and I need to figure out what is wrong with our mushrooms. We've had them for two months, and I only noticed this a few days ago.

I think that is the "guts" or internals of the mushroom coral spewing out.

 

Probably means that it's unhappy.
