Joe Pusdesris Posted August 21, 2012 Share Posted August 21, 2012 I used them for a couple of years and they are pretty reliable. That said, I did have a couple of floods. Drilling is better. Basically if the syphon clogs up with algae, sponges, or whatever, then you can hit the situation where the sump pump will pump all the water available into the display and it will overflow. You get great turnover with 1" pipe. I ran mine around 700gph for 2 years with 2 flooding incidents. You don't need the check valve in there at all. Just keep it sealed and you can start the syphon by sucking the air out of the vent. Link to comment
