ajroahkni
Don't know if you guys know of this, but: "HAWAIIAN REEF BALLS!" Some guy here on Maui sells these things, they're pretty neat??? Basically, it's a sealed plastic orb, about the size of a pool ball. Inside, there's some coral sand (large granules), a piece of LR, some macro, and these ala'e shrimp (maybe 5 mm max in length and red). It's supposed to last 2-5 years as a sealed ecosystem, needing only exposure to sunlight on a metered basis. It's really small nano-rificism, commercialized. Anyway, thought you guys & gals wanna know. John Link to comment
neumahrs
I believe the national geographic sells them as does many other retailers. Neat to look at for the first day or two but gets boring afterwords. A bit pricey ($65 and up) though. Link to comment
NaNO ReeFiN
Do any of you have pictures of this hawaiin reef ball? Link to comment
Fishiebusiness
CHeck it out: http://www.brookstone.com/shop/product.asp...ype=subcategory but 500 dollars, I'd rather get full 7 gallon bowfront nano reef setup: infinitely cooler than a 9inch orb with a dead gorgonian and a few tiny shrimp. Sahin
No way would I be spending $500 or rather £310 on something like that. As Fishiebusiness says, rather spend it on a small tank setup. Looks cool though, but I'd only think that for a few days. Link to comment
pscheel
Here's someplace that sells it a little cheaper. http://www.ecosaqua.com/#Saltwater%20Aquar...byist%20Section BTW, I got the red ogo and they gave me 27 of the red shrimp. I put them in the main tank and they didn't last too long. Maybe in the fuge the next time. Link to comment
Nishant3789
yea, there have been a few threads about this, but seriusly in my eyes, they are not reefs, as they do not have corals. nishant Link to comment
fishymissy
There used to be a store here called Natures Wonders that sold those and also ones like those....only the other ones had a betta in it, or a few stunted tetras....very cruel. No better than those AquaBabies things.... The bettas were supposed to eat the algae off of the one stunted plant shoved in there with it. I guess no one bothered to find out that bettas are carnivores. I feel sorry for those shrimp stuck in there:*( Link to comment
