Canister filter cleaning question?

I have a Eheim 2217 canister filter. I took the carbon out and the filter has not been clean since I got it. It has been 6 weeks. How often am I to clean my media inside? Do I replace the media or the floss? Do i just rinse it with cold water. The instructions do not explain anything.

just replace the floss and carbon. i would rinse the media (and carbon) with some tank water or makeup water if you're worried about loose particulates.
