penguin 170 into overflow box

So is there anyone that could help me convert my penguin 170 into overflow box? I am in the process of making a refugium, and have everything worked out but the intake to it. This way if the power goes out no worry, Both pumps will go off. I was thinking of making it like a pre-filter since my fuge is under the tank.
