lary
We purchased a scarlett hermit crab just over a month ago and since then the 30 gal tank has been like a scene from CSI Coral reef. 1 Humahuma Trigger dead after listlessness of 2-3 days. 1 Hawkfish dead after tail began to disappear and now today, 10 minutes after we placed 2 Velvet damsels in the tank we found the crab "enjoying" it's last meal. Anyone else encounter tank depletion at the "claws" of one of these marauders? Link to comment

pyrrhus
are you talking about a Dardanus Sp. hermit? the starry eyed hermits are known for eating anything they can get their claws on, and that is quite a bit, i dont think it could take out a trigger however, unless the crab was larger than the fish. lary
The Humahuma just got very lethargic after the crab was in the tank, then it appeared to be losing bits of its tail each night. This huma was quite a beautiful fish but had a habit of sticking its head into a rock and "sleeping" most of the time it wasn't eating we had it for almost a year. I was told by the fish store that it was a scarlett hermit, it was just smaller than the size of quarter. We are wondering if the quarantine wasn't long enough and he infected the fish besides eating at their tails. Link to comment
