Anthony, I like you ... but you must be seriously high right now. Do you really think you can go to Godaddy and register a domain worth $20k? Or even register one worth $20?

 

The reason it is available to register is because nobody wants it. coralfragments.com has been registered 4 times, and 'dropped' 3 times. The other two you are the first to register.

 

highendzoa.com ... you say $20k, yet highendzoas.com is available to register for 8 bucks.

 

Do some research before wasting any more of your dollars on crappy domains. Check out some sites like www.dnforum.com www.namepros.com (domainer forums ... full of both domain professionals and people thinking they can make a quick buck), or www.dnjournal.com to see what kind of domain really are valuable.

 

All of which is not to say that these aren't good domain names for the purpose you are describing. They just are not worth diddly squat to anyone but you until they are developed into a profitable site/business.

Seriously, do domain names really matter anymore? Most people are going to use a search engine and the name is increasingly arbitrary unless there's a brand / organization identity.

LMAO.. you have NO IDEA how many times per week I have this exact conversation with someone. I'll get an email or call from an "idea guy" who has this amazing idea (usually claims to have investors lined up or a friend/family member who's an expert of some sort claiming it's a great idea). The project is almost always, in their mind, the "next big thing".

 

I'll take this call and they describe that they want a social media site where people can communicate, chat, share pics, share videos, and interact with each other based on common interests. I then say "so, you want me to create Facebook for you", to which the standard response is "yes, in a sense, but BETTER. This is a lot like Facebook, with more of a focus on <insert random buzz word that does not mean what they think it means.. for the purpose of this story, let's use "frames">.

 

The next part of the conversation is them telling me that they have investors lined up, but would like to give me the "opportunity" to become his partner. Since he's be "contributing the idea and do most of the marketing", he would like us to develop the application for free in exchange for a split of the proceeds. I then ask how the site will be monetized (mostly for my own ####s and giggles). The funniest part is 9 out of 10 of these guys have no idea that social media sites make most of their money on advertising. Generally, they say something about getting traffic and traffic being worth money (which isn't entirely untrue, but they obviously aren't thinking that way).

 

It amazes me how many people think they can become insta-millionaires overnight just by copying Facebook. Not only do they think it's a great idea, but they also make me sign all sorts of non-disclosure documents so I don't "steal their idea" ever since The Social Network movie. It's funny because they all use the same NDA template from the internet and at least 75% of them forget to actually fill in their company information.

I think starting out at 20,000 is a bit high. Perhaps try lowering your price. Maybe you could make good money by selling more domains.

you know i expected to hear better things when posting this like hey man thats a pretty good idea you have there or wow those look like pretty good names but all people do is bicker and turn this sour.20000 was just a number i threw out there because i have no experience in this.do i hosenstly think someone would pay that no.i was curious to see how many hits it would get so far in about 8 hours its gotten 820 which is more of the the reason it is posted.i really expected it to be more insprarational but it has just hasnt gone the way i expected.there are many hours of my time spent researching and looking into this.hard time confusing work........maybe you could make sense of this easily or maybe you could understand code isnt the easyiest thing in the world to do.

this is a fraction of about 1000 lines per page which is a rough estimate of a page.there can be no errors.its very complex and without any sort of background in this stuff you are really in trouble.So i hope people will approach this in a differnt manner but most likely a mods gona come around and maybe chew me out for posting it.i dont know i was intrested and just happy i got the .com adreeses simular to the excitement of buying corals.it is hardware i guess just being up to date in the technical feild or the year 2012.off topic ya probally by now.something differnt ..yep................intresting change from the norm.......yep.reef related................i think so.Helping the comunity is what i thought it would acheive in a long term sense if my "vision"turned out nice with all sorts of zoa photos.scrolling random pictures of zoas.maybe something this forum and people would be intrested in.

If you expect anyone with even the slightest bit of web developing experience to believe that all that code is manually typed now days when creating a web page, you're crazy. Almost all professional web developers use a GUI that will put the code together for you automatically.

What does the code have to do with selling the domain for 20k.

Spending your time writing low level HTML is a waste unless you want to write a HTML editor.

 

I think the concept that you think you are helping the community is BS. Your first post says a friend advised you to flip domains to make money. Thanks for the community enrichment....
