JSB
I was just given a 15 gallon tank (from the looks of it) and it has a shiny metal frame around the edges (I'm assuming it's stainless steel). Has anyone had experience with such a tank in a microreef and if so, whas it positive/negative? I can always keep the water level under the top of the tank so that the water isn't in contact with that metal, but it sort of touched off a buzzer in my head to see metal, as opposed to plastic. Thoughts? Link to comment
vyger
I haven't had any experience with them but....... salt water is very corrosive to metal.... IMO I'd stay away from any kind of metal trim around the tank edge. It would almost be impossible to keep water from getting in contact with the edge of the tank and then there's salt creep. A plain AGA 15 gal tank is not that much money. In fact in a reef tank setup the cheapest thing is usually the tank...It might be stainless steel but is it worth the hassel of setting up a whole system to find out your going to have problems with the tank...
