DSparks
Does it matter what direction they are when inserted into the clips? In other words, can you install a DE bulb upside down? Link to comment
Reefer_Buddha
on the ushio bulb i bought the box has a diagram that shows the correct way. I have mine with the little glass nipple thingy pointing toward the water. Link to comment
theclearblue
Well, I'm not sure what type of DE fixture/sockets you're using, but when I installed my 250w Coralvue into a PFO pendant there was only one way it could be inserted. I'm pretty sure that the 70 watt DE is different though, hence all the discussion on the nipple of the bulb. Hopefully someone can help you with that if you're using 70 watt. Reefer_Buddha - you're quick Link to comment
DSparks
Ah, I bet mine is in the wrong way. I bet I'm not getting as much light because of it Link to comment

qfour20
I thought that the "nipple" "nub" or "stump" on the ushio is supposed to point *UP*? That's why the box that I have says.... -q Link to comment
DSparks
I'll check my box again tonight, but I don't think it specified one way or the other. Link to comment
SeaSide
Is that the "nipple" "nub" or "stump" thing at the middle of bulb? OMG!!! I had it point down toward water. Well... don't know if it casue any problem. Is that small stump going to block tons of light? Is it the axis of evil or something? Is there anything "OMG" about it? Link to comment
Reefer_Buddha
i called ushio and they said since its a horizontal burning bulb it really doesnt matter which way its placed in the sockets Link to comment
LikemyRams
Can we still say nipple..... Link to comment
USFnano
My nipple is pointing up... er... umm... yeah Link to comment
DSparks
Sounds like nipple placement is irrelevant. Link to comment
ravenlot
I can point the the nipple up :woot: so it won't block the light but then that metal piece in the bulb is now blocking. Oh the dilemna ... hehehe Link to comment
