KevinC
I read the artical a while back about LED light options with the new luxeons. But, poor me can't afford those. Has anyone tried these they are half the price? I would how well they would work? http://www.moreleds.com/kufo.htm -Kevin Link to comment
1fish2fish
Only one way to find out. Buy a bunch and hook em up. I'd almost be willing to give that a try over the one liter tank I have in the works, but I'm not sure how many I could actually fit over it and I also want to wait until I see the outcome of reefpirate's experiment. KevinC
Actually, I did a little math. The Luxeon III (3 watts) are more light for the dollar. So, even these cheap ones are not the best bang for the buck. The 3 watters are better. UFO's ~20 lums for $5.00 Luxeon III ~80 lums for $15.00 You get 25% more light for the same price with the luxeons. Now if they only come down in price some more. -Kevin Link to comment
AndyL
There's a bunch of us out here working on led lighting as primary lighting for tanks (both sw and fw). I'm impatiently waiting on some 16,000 mcd whites for some testing... While the luxeons are rather pricey - they are pretty powerful - but I'm betting with LEDs like the 16000mcd's I bought at roughly 1$ each - I'll be able to match the power of the luxeons - albeit I'm sure it will take more of the standard leds (but at a buck each... even if it takes 6-10...) BTW - as odd as it may seem - ebay is still one of the cheapest places to get LEDs... But you really need to be careful - more than a few of the higher rated LEDs (over 10,000mcd) are rated at that beyond their max current. Andy Link to comment
