Manbotus
Here's my idea... I'm just starting up my JBJ nano cube. What do you guys think about putting a plastic tube filled with mineral mud into one of the back filter areas of the cube? The tube has a bottom in it. I think the theory of how the mud works is that the mud depth is important, so a layer of anerobic (Nitrate Gobbling) bacteria can thrive deep in the mud. I think a tube would be good because I can put about 4 to 5 inches of mud in there. -Manbotus Link to comment
john76
Don't you need a lot of surface area for it to work? Link to comment
Manbotus
I think it is the depth of the mud that matters. The tube I have is extruded plastic, it is 1mm thick, about 4-5 inches in diameter, and just tall enough to fit in the back. I have to squeeze the tube slightly to get it in the back of the nano cube. Hopefully some mud is better than no mud. The tube has a bottom on it so you could remove it from the aquarium without getting mud all in the back filter section of the tank. Maybe I'll grow a mangrove and stick it out of one of the fan holes! What do you scientists think? Will this work or should I just cram the cube full of live rock? Manbotus:) Link to comment
