toofrigginswt
Updated Full Tank Shot on POST #27 - 9/14/11 Hi Everyone. I use to be really into the saltwater and reef hobby. However, I got out of it after I moved. Recently, I had the itch to start another salt water tank. I just wanted to share my tank and use this as a way to track my progress. Here is a picture of my old 90g mixed reef. I sure miss this tank: Here is a picture of my 17 gallon rimless cube tank. The equipment are as follows: -Tank birth date: July 1, 2011 -16x16x16 cube tank (rimless) -Nano hang on overflow -JBJ K2 viper hqi clamp light (14k) 150w. -20 lbs of live sand -20 lbs of live rock -Hydor Koralia Nano -7 gallon sump -Micron Sock filter -Cheap via aqua return pump Added about 18-20lbs of live rock as well as some chromis damsels. The damsels will be removed once the cycling is over. I used water from an established tank to help speed up the cycling process. Then I started looking at a lot of the minimalistic tanks and really liked the look and feel of that style. So I decided to re-arrange the rock work to give it a more open feel. The aquascape wouldn't hold so I used epoxy to ensure that the rock wouldn't move... especially later on when I add my clean up crew and corals, I don't want anything to be knocked over. By the way, I removed a few damsels and added a pair of tank raised clowns. Thanks for looking at my tank. I know it looks kind of funny right now with all the epoxy but after my tank is established, my corals and coraline algae should cover it all up. Here are my plans for the tank: -sps dominant tank -either one more hydor koralia nano or get a koralia 1. -protein skimmer (still researching on which one to get that will fit my small sump) -DIY Kalk drip and top off -A more quiet return pump that can fit in my sump -LED Upgrade in the future I welcome any comments or suggestions. Thanks! Edited September 14, 2011 by toofrigginswt Quote Link to comment
ry05coupe
This is a really clean looking tank, I like it! It is also making me want to scrape the black background off of my 40b.. I love the look of tanks without backgrounds, kinda wish I hadn't painted mine. Quote Link to comment

toofrigginswt
Thanks for all the compliments so far folks! This is a really clean looking tank, I like it! It is also making me want to scrape the black background off of my 40b.. I love the look of tanks without backgrounds, kinda wish I hadn't painted mine. That's funny because I was debating whether or not I wanted to make the back black or not. No need to hide the wires and hoses when it's black. I have to find time to zip tie and hide all my wires in the back. Hopefully this will be done on my next update. I want to know what that fan/light combo fixture is... It's a JBJ Clamp on hqi. It's an "okay" fixture only. The ballast went out on me my first week. Luckily, I know some of the guys at JBJ so they were able to get it fixed for me in 1 day. They are only about 30 miles from my apartment. Looks great, how do you like the size difference from you old tank. Usaully people get bigger but you got smaller and simpler. You know what your doing for sure! Awesome. Ill keep watching Well, the size of my tank is limited now because I live in an apartment. When I get a new home, I'll definitely go bigger. Also, the bigger the tank, the more money I'll spend to fill it up! haha. I spent well over $10k on my 90 gallon. This time, I'm trying to limit my casualties and take my time and do things right. It's been 7 years since I had a tank and a lot has changed in the hobby. It's quite amazing. Quote Link to comment
toofrigginswt
Just thought I'd give a 30 day update. I added a few things: -Added a Koralia 1. I initially added a Koralia 3 but it was WAAAY too strong. Right now, there's a decent amount of flow between the return, Koralia 1, and Koralia nano. However, I think i'm going to need more flow. I am probably going to swap the Koralia 1 out for a 2. -A few sps frags and a zoo colony. -Added an AquaticLife Mini Skimmer. It's a really small skimmer at a very reasonable price. So far, it appears to be pulling out some decent skim. -I also just ordered a new LED light fixture that should arrive on 8/5. I will definitely post pics once I get that in. -Also ordered a new 12x12x12 glass sump to replace my ugly garbage can sump. Will post pics soon. On to the pics: Quote Link to comment
toofrigginswt
Here's an update of my tank as of 8/17/11. Just installed an LED fixture. I'm still waiting on my sump to be made. My next investment is going to be a Vortech MP10 and get rid of all the Koralia powerheads. Let me know what you guys think! Quote Link to comment
castiel
Where did your huge ball of zoas go? That was awesome! But still looking really good. Quote Link to comment
toofrigginswt
Where did your huge ball of zoas go? That was awesome! But still looking really good. I still have the big ball of zoas. It's currently in my sump because I'm thinking about trading or selling it. You think I should put it back in? Quote Link to comment
Rehype
Looks awesome although i do miss the way it looked with halides.. You think I should put it back in? Yes.It adds alot of character to your tank Quote Link to comment
d'Espresso
it's looks clean and lots of room for fish to swim! keep up the good work! Quote Link to comment
toofrigginswt
Okay... I'll take your advice and put the zoas back in. So far, the LEDs are doing great. A lot of my sps started coloring up immediately. I did get a couple that bleached out but that was expected when I made the switch. Quote Link to comment
