My uncle taught me this when I was learning to weld: If you ever get flashed(create an arc without having your welding hood down), put Vick's Vapo-rub on your eyelids. This apparently helps with the pain. A few weeks later, he was teaching me how to TIG weld. I must have dropped the torch, because it arced, and I was staring into that arc for enough time to cause severe pain (less than a couple seconds). I did this "vapo-rub" trick, and the pain was gone in about an hour. Try this if you accidentally stare into the arc-tube of a MH bulb.
