sprite Posted March 13, 2004 Share Posted March 13, 2004 i got a 7 gallon acrylic cube which has alot of scratches on it and i was thinking of buying a 10 gallon glass.my 7 only has bout 6 lbs of lr in it if i buy the 10 can i just add some regular rock[dead] to it without putting lr in and starting a cycle again?...thanks Link to comment
tinyreef Posted March 14, 2004 Share Posted March 14, 2004 bump yes, you can use dry rock and let it slowly seed into LR. i would still soak and rinse the dry rock to clean out crud that always seems to get into them. tufa and lava (red) rocks are most commonly used but throwaway LR is another good option. many lfs will have loose/used rock bins to cherry pick over at a fraction of the cost of their LR. for the used/nuked rock i always additionally cycle in a separate container (usually a bucket) with poly-filters, just in case they were from a copper-medicated FOWLR. hth Link to comment
